Two in a row...

Hi there...again! Look at me with two in a row! I'm so ambitious!

As you know I am in the midst of project re-organize!

Last night I didn't get to it though...I went to the FotoFly fall open house. Have any of you heard of Foto Fly?

It's an indoor photography studio in Draper, Utah. Being a photographer I wouldn't usually plug another studio, but since they specialize in indoor, studio setting photography- why not? I won't be opening a studio anytime soon!

Anyway, for about $79 you get your session and the disc...not sure what prints may come with it- but the disc is worth a million bucks! So many people ~ahem~ excluding me, charge like $200 for the disc....really? That's too much! I think everyone deserves to be able to capture the memories of family, friends, events- no matter what their income is!

I'm sorry I'm so distracted!

Hi there! It's been almost a month again since my last post. I hate to do that to you! My intentions are good I promise! I have a lot of fun projects planned, but...have a few things to tend to before I can get to those projects.
My main distraction right now is prepping my house for winter and getting that "fall cleaning" done. Unfortunately for me this is quite the task because my hubby and I both work full time and we have a little girl. So sometimes our "to do" list becomes a "will do sometime" list.
This week was going good on moving through that list though...until last night when I attempted to tackle my closet.
I mentioned in a previous post the importance of observing how your family/household runs~ remember, I said we are a very "needs to see it" family? And I meant that we like to see things so we remember they are there. An example would be food...sometimes when we stick things away in the pantry we forget about them. So in our organizing and making things pretty, we need to make sure that whatever change we make incorporates our need and like to "see" everything easily.
Over the last few weeks-since we last chatted- I've notice quite a few things about us: 1. I habitually walk all my stuff in to the house and set it on the kitchen table or the kitchen counter- NOT ACCEPTABLE! 2. Our little girl changes her outfits like 4 times when we get home from the day. Also unacceptable! SO MUCH LAUNDRY! 3. I wish I had a magic wand...the mess and clutter has overwhelmed me!
So....I made an executive decision that my little ones clothes will go in our closet until she gets used to them not being in hers. We've seen a lot less laundry in the past few weeks but that has resulted in absolute chaos in our closet! So after cleaning my bathroom Monday night and it looking beautiful for two days...I decided it was time to re-organize the closet. MISTAKE! I thought it'd take like an hour, easy-peasy right? Um no!!!!After about an hour and being on a step ladder that was not quite sturdy I gave up....leaving the closet a mess and the bathroom a mess. I went in unprepared and didn't realize that I may really need a few basic supplies. Those supplies...don't judge me...are those plastic rubbermaid drawer sets! I think they are awful to look at...but they will be in the closet and help so much! I'd go with and oldish dresser but I dont have the budget for that right now...and I am guaranteed the drawer depth I need by those plastic ones because I already have one set. Eeeek! I know. But sometimes to be functional means sucking it up and getting something that is not pretty. But HEY!! It's in the closet...

Hello! It's been a while!

Hello friend! It's been a while! I've been super busy cleaning and organizing my house so that I can get busy with all my projects on my list without feeling guilty that I should be cleaning/organizing.

My house has never been organized. The most organized part of my house at any point in time was probably my closet, when I lived here alone and it was just me and my great big closet!

Nowadays, since adding a husband, my sweet little girl, and a puppy to the mix- all you will find is chaos!

We had a stint of time where my Mom was living in our newly finished basement. That was a while ago and last summer she moved out to join my Dad out of state. Well......with a husband going to school full-time to finish his degree, let's just say projects...and sanity for that matter went right out the window!

We have been doing a ton of work lately to make our house a home and I can't wait for it to be done...not that it will ever actually be "done" but atleast it will be clean, de-cluttered and organized better than Ms. Martha Stewart herself!

So what's in the pipeline you ask? Well....organization tips, fun projects from decor to giving your old furniture a new life and so much more!

But for now I have to run so that I can finish morning started with organizing my food storage shelves!!

So far my blog is pretty boring...

So far my blog is pretty boring. It seems like a journal. I hope that some day someone reads it, and that I have some bloggy friends and "followers". I am still trying to figure all of this stuff out. There are so many beautiful blogs out there with great content and I hope to someday be on of those!
I spent a great deal of time this afternoon taking pictures of my wreck of a house in preparation for the major organization overhaul that is about to come.
I've organized before...again and again and again....but in my current cycle of being overwhelmed by the mess and clutter, I realized something. I was organizing before based on what I thought looked pretty- not what worked for my family! It was like a giant light bulb went off! It was my epiphany of the year!
I have all of my daughters clothes from newborn size to her recently grown out of 3T size. I am talking bins and bins and piles and stacks here, I need to get rid of them. I need to get rid of anything that my hands have not touched in 6 months, unless it was expensive- like jewelry rarely worn or something. All this clutter is so overwhelming!!
I realized over the past couple of weeks (I have been paying close attention to our habits) that we are a 'needs to see it family'. Meaning: we always leave things out where we can see them, we use them and put them back- not where they go- but where we picked them up from.
I think the cause of this is the lack of convenient storage in the house we live in. My next house will have built in storage every place I can put it!!
So I am out to de-clutter us, organize us and make it all functional!

Baby Shower

Today I hosted a Baby Shower for my good friend Jenny. I had it at my house at 10 a.m.

The Mommy to be had requested it be a "brunch thing" so that she could make sure that her sister could attend.

So after I thought about the traditional "brunch" fare, I had decided that I really did NOT want my house to smell like bacon and eggs all day. I also didn't want to have to worry about making a million waffles either.

So I opted for a 'Make your own Yogurt Parfait" stand. I purchased strawberry, plain and vanilla yogurt, maple and vanilla granola crunch, and frozen berries. I also made bacon and served blueberry and chocolate chip mini muffins.

I just used simple plastic SOLO cups that were clear, and let people stack their ingredients in themselves. I really wanted fancy cups for them, but none seem to suit how I pictured it in my head. I figured if the Nordstrom E-bar can serve them in plastic cups- than so can I!

For games I took a que from House of Smiths, and did the guess how many "Baby" Ruths are in the jar, I also did the popular measuring the Mommy's belly guessing game. My third game was one I'd never done before- you give each guest a crayon and a paper plate, have them write their name on the inside of the plate (what you'd eat off of) and then you have them put it on their head- name side down and take one minute to draw a baby- one handed, not looking and with the plate on their heads! Although we have all known each other quite some time, it still really got everyone talking and mingling. I highly recommend it!

For game prizes I gave out $5 Target gift cards, a Vanilla Cupcake candle, 2 metal inspirational bookmarks, a Scentsy Travel Tin and Scentsy Car Candle- I know they changed the name of this, but I don't remember what it was changed to. :o)

And for my party favors- instead of racking my brain trying to figure out what to get and make it both budget friendly and fun, I opted to make a kitchen lemon hand scrub. I packaged it in canning jars and topped it with a ribbon, a tag to label it and topped the jar with stickers that said "thanks for coming".

East Coast Living

I have always been {lightly} obsessed with the East Coast.

It probably started around the age of 16. I have always thought that maybe I belonged in a different life. A life of easy going beach walks, collecting sea glass, and having big clam bake gatherings with friends and family.

I have had a couple of opportunities in my life to head east, and each time I am going to take the leap~ I chicken out!

My latest opportunity, would have been to move to the Raleigh, North Carolina area. I had this opportunity once before a few years back- and didn't take it {LONG story}...but this last time, it wasn't me who chickened out.

My husband, is VERY smart. He is also VERY cautious- a planner. He had just graduated from the University of Utah and the last year had been a major penny pincher on our budget, scratch that~ it wiped us out financially!

There was a great opportunity with an employer there (actually, there are several thousand opportunities in the area for his line of work/degree).

HE didn't think it was a good idea to move our family with an economy that is unstable and really, we would have had to beg, borrow and plea to get there with our car full of stuff.

But why not? I am a glass full kinda gal, and he is a...count whats in the jar kinda guy. This equals some major issues, and major compromise.

Needless to say he accepted a nice conservative position where we are at, which meant I got to keep my job that I LoVe.

So what's the problem?

I spend every day plotting on how to get us back there~ secretly looking at jobs he may be qualified for, looking at houses, looking at schools for out little one.
Here are just three of the houses I found today. These are the ready to move in ones.
I have a whole other list of ones that would be investments- picked up for as little as $35,000.

Oh how I wish I were back there...... what's the worst thing that can happen? We move back to where we started?

My very first post.....

This is my first post...and my first blog.

I am not sure exactly what this blog will consist of, but I do know a few things it will include:

1. Projects; I {heart} projects!

2. Anything food: Recipes, Restaurant Reviews, Storage, Presentation, etc.

3. Organizing ideas...

4. Interior Design Ideas...

5. Inspiration.....I use this term loosely :o)

So hopefully I will find an audience that enjoys all of these things as much as I do!
